What Is A Direct Response Website?

Direct response marketing is hailed as one of the most profitable cash cows in the Internet marketing industry. Back then, before the Internet graced our computer screens, direct response already existed in the form of mail order – as a physical counterpart to today’s sales letters and landing pages.

According to Wikipedia, it is also defined as a form of marketing designed to solicit a direct response which is specific and quantifiable.

Direct response is also inseparably connected to copywriting, which both serve the same function of soliciting a direct response from the prospect or the buyer – which usually results in collecting a monetary transaction or soliciting the contact details like their primary email address, or their first and last name.

One of the best ways to accentuate the power of a direct response website is to use a mini site. A mini site is simply a website that has the primary function of targeting prospects in a particular niche, a niche such as Internet marketing or niche marketing.

A killer mini site is one with really tight copy that entices prospects to scroll down or immediately respond to the offers in the sales letter or the squeeze page. Unlike a traditional website which usually serves more as an informational hub, mini sites get the job done by getting soliciting the right kind of information. (Sort of using the words – “Click Here” as an effective way to get people to take action immediately)

Here are a couple of tips on how to roll out better direct response marketing methods for your mini site:

    * Always make sure the mini site banners you are using are as customized and personalized as possible. With countless websites on the net constantly demanding your attention, your site must stand out from the crowd. People love the personal touch and when you can show that to your prospects, it will increase your conversion or opt-in rates.

    * Try and pick a color that is matching the product you are selling or the affiliate program that you are promoting. If you are able to have a matching theme, you will be able to get better response as well (like blending AdSense with the right colors – the same principle applies).

    * Getting the right domain name also helps because people do judge a site by what they type into the URL box as well.

    * Take your time and choose good mini site templates because not all mini site designs are created equal.

What the Differences between a Mini site and a Website

Mini sites are very popular tools that are often hailed as the right tool to conquer many niches in Internet marketing or niche marketing.

But how do mini site and their mini site designs differentiate a webmaster from using traditional websites? Isn’t their HTML structure consisting of the same code? The easiest way to look at it is more of the primary functionality rather than the other aesthetic differences.

Here are a few examples:

  1. Fundamentally, mini Sites are different from normal websites functionally because one serves the purpose of soliciting a direct response action. For most direct response marketing campaigns, their sole purpose is to solicit an action in return – often in the form of transacting a purchase of some sort or the contact details of the prospect such as email addresses, names and sometimes, even phone numbers. Most traditional websites do not focus on direct response as most of the time, they serve as information centers.
  2. Mini site designs also differentiate themselves their traditional counterparts by offering webmasters the opportunity to churn out mini sites at a significantly faster pace. Because they are easy to create and they follow a fixed template, you can easily conjure up a profitable money machine easily once you identify the niche. Most mini site designs come with good customizable headers, footers and themed backgrounds to help you to identify easily with your prospects and buyers.
  3. Another interesting feature about mini site design is the fact that most direct response copy compresses the line of text into an ‘easy to read’ column. Part of sales psychology is to get your prospect to read every single line of the letter by making sure that their eyes do not go all over the place (the same way as email marketing – why people prefer to limit their written content to 55 characters or so in every line). In addition to that, getting your prospect to scroll down ‘exercises’ their finger so that they are more inclined to take action and buy or opt-in – thus serving the primary function of direct response marketing once again.

There are many different kinds of mini site designs sold on the market (which are significantly cheaper than hiring a website designer). Some of them are more ‘in your face’ oriented while others give a soothing feeling that slowly eases the prospect to buy the product. In essence, customization is the key to giving your mini site the right response you will need from your prospect.
